“Ritual and ceremony in their due times kept the world under the sky and the stars in their courses. It was astonishing what ritual and ceremony could do”.

Terry Pratchett

In my mid-20s I had to unexpectedly organise the funerals for both my parents. I was left frustrated by the processes and options I felt were available, given their secular status.

Ceremony and ritual had not played a great role in my life growing-up, so I began to question the function, place and rationale for it in the 21st Century, for those without a faith. By 2016 my curiosity had led me to a 4-day training intensive with one of the inspirational founders of Welfare State International, Sue Fox and the deeply compassionate Gilly Adams. What a better way to explore the concept of ceremony.

Through attending the Rites of Passage training course, ran by the Dead Good Guides, I was able to better understand and appreciate the benefits of collective experiences during transitions in our life. I was also encouraged by the ways in which the natural environment, creativity, personalisation and participation could be embedded.

Mainly I learned there are few rules; humans are meaning-makers… so let the creativity flourish.

Since then, I have had the privilege to work with many people to create, shape and hold numerous ceremonies, including weddings, funerals and naming ceremonies. It has also informed some of my artistic practice, especially BLINK: Reconcile whereby I co-produced a micro-ceremony that toured the UK in 2019.

The honour is always great; so if you would like me to work with you on your ceremony, do get in touch.

Below are a couple of testimonials from some of the people I have worked with…

Nicole & James Tie the Knot

Jodie performed our wedding ceremony in 2018 and from start to finish the experience was caring and personal.

We knew we wanted something bespoke and she worked with us over a few sessions (meeting for coffee and over skype) to map out why we were getting married, what it meant to us and the type of day we wanted to create.

Jodie brought bundles of good humour and warmth to the service and a calming presence and great organisation in the lead up. From first meeting, talking about our ideas, all the way to 'you may now kiss', Jodie went above and beyond to ensure that our ceremony was completely suited to us and made sure it really did feel like a celebration!

Welcoming Ella, Amelie & Imogen

Jodie was celebrant for all three of our daughter’s naming days. Not only is she professional, reliable and organised but she has a genuine personal touch.

Her major focus and concern is always to make sure the event is absolutely what the client wants and needs. There is no limit to the time she spends ensuring this and in our case, she led in creating bespoke and personalised naming days, completely built around us and our daughters.

She has a natural ability to make you feel completely at ease and her passion for making others happy is rare, special and priceless.

When leading the events themselves, she is outstanding. Confident, warm and instinctive. She is completely comfortable with an audience and finds the perfect balance of humour and formality. Our guests repeatedly commented on how impressed they were with her.

I would recommend Jodie time and time again.
